The Airbus A320 has just ousted the Boeing 737 as the most-delivered jet airliner in aviation history.
The Boeing aircraft has been one of the most successful in the world, but various issues with the 737 MAX have allowed its great rival, Airbus, to catch up.
While it hasn’t been around as long, the French airliner has proven to be just as reliable, safe, and dependable as the 737, and the A320 has really made a name for itself.
The news that it is now the most delivered jet airliner in history might serve as a wake-up call to the embattled Boeing.

How the Airbus A320 has outsold the Boeing 737
Boeing has held the best-selling jet airliner record for decades, but that fell early in October 2025.
This happened with the delivery of an Airbus A320neo to Saudi airline Flynas.
Since the A320 entered service in 1988, the company has now delivered 12,260 aircraft across the globe.

Airbus and Boeing have yet to officially respond to the news.
Between the two companies, around 25,000 jets have been delivered.
In terms of total annual deliveries, Airbus is also ahead of its great rival.
But the shattering of this record shows that the European manufacturer very much has the upper hand.
The A320 has been in service since the 1980s
Airbus launched the A320 in 1984, in what had been a tumultuous introduction for the European company.
Its two previous aircraft had rocky introductions, and some didn’t think the company would last another year.
The Airbus A300 and A310 would eventually find success, and the A320 was the first commercial aircraft to use a digital fly-by-wire control system.
Thankfully, the A320 cemented Airbus’s position as a major player in commercial aviation.
Fly-by-wire became a standard for every aircraft, and the A320 is still a huge commercial success.

Despite the issues with the MAX, the Boeing 737 has equally been a major success in service.
Incredibly, Boeing has been building its iconic narrow-body airliner since 1966.
Both it and its European cousin are likely to remain in commercial service for years to come.
