Jeep owners have rubber ducks on their dash… but why?

If you’ve ever walked past a parked one in a lot, chances are you may have seen some rubber ducks lying on the dash, and it turns out, it’s actually a rather large phenomenon.

“The Ducking began in the summer of 2020 when a Jeep lover thought that more smiles were needed,” explained the brand itself.

One woman decided to undertake the act of kindness by taking a small rubber duck and leaving it on a car, and since then, the act of ducking has gone viral and even turned into a Jeep tradition.

Ducking isn’t restricted to one model either, but Jeep Wranglers tend to collect the most ducks overall, and it’s a way to celebrate the greatness of Jeep creations, rather than being judgmental.

And, there’s a simple, but sweet meaning behind it.

“It’s a nod to the shared experiences and the unspoken bond that unites Jeep lovers worldwide,” further explained the brand. whilst also reminding drivers to carry on the sweet act.

Plus, whilst playing duck, duck, Jeep, some ducks are even accompanied by a note too, and the act has become so big that there are even Facebook groups dedicated to the gesture, which is rather wholesome, you have to admit.

Reported messages attached to the ducks include ‘You’ve been ducked’ and even ‘Love the Jeep!’ alongside there being a special hashtag consisting of ‘#duckduckJeep’.

And, to keep the fun going, there are rules to make sure that the ducking game is played safely and kindly, including not placing the plastic figures inside a car and being gentle when giving the gift to another owner.

The phenomenon is so huge that a gigantic rubber duck was even revealed at the Detroit Motor Show, where drivers even got their own mini duck to celebrate the occasion.

Jeep has a varied fleet of cars that house the ducking tradition

The British brand’s first model hit the scene in 1940, and since its release, the company has continued to produce a powerful selection of vehicles.

From the Wrangler to the Avenger, the models have impressive powertrains and features, proving to hit the jackpot amongst gearheads.

In fact, one group of guys made a journey all the way from Texas to California to try and restore a stash of classic CJs – talk about dedication.

And, to weigh in on the ducking tradition, one cop cleared up the legality behind the fun and games, which, if done safely and respectfully, is a perfectly legal act to undertake.

So there we go, happy ducking!
