These Idaho guys set about creating the world’s first diesel Ferrari, and they did so with a totaled F355 Spider from Tavarish.

This car had quite the history, starting off with creator Tyler Hoover from Hoovies Garage before making its way over to YouTuber Tavarish.

During that time it also caught fire on the road.

And now it’s in the hands of the Grind Hard Plumbing team, and they’ve got big plans for it.

Creating the world’s first diesel Ferrari

This F355 Spider had been through a lot.

While owned by Tyler Hoover from ‘Hoovies Garage’, it burst into flames due to a suspected bad fuel-line crimp.

Although it was horrifically burnt, Tavarish bought it off him with aims to fix it up.

He found the last roof made for the car and purchased it, before passing it onto a ‘couple idiots in Idaho that just want a Ferrari diesel rally car’.

And that’s where Hard Grind Plumbing come into the picture.

These guys are no strangers to ambitious projects, having previously built a Big Wheel bike out of a tractor wheel, and putting F1 wheels onto their Kei truck.

And they’ve definitely been challenged before – remember the time they bought the world’s worst excavators to reach a camper at the top of a mountain?

Now they planned to take on an entirely different project, and as they would come to learn, it would test them.

Their engine would be sourced from the Volkswagen Touareg V10 twin-turbo diesel – quite the transition, considering how much bigger the Touareg is.

First off, this F355 Spider got a clean up, both inside and out.

They found a whole bunch of stuff on the inside, including 21 cents in coins, a Supra floor mat, and a Lamborghini shirt.

They were hesitant to use the Touareg as a donor car, as the guys admitted they really liked it.

But if they wanted to reach their goal of a diesel Ferrari, this was the price that had to be paid.

Was this F355 Spider going to be ready for the track?

By video’s end, the V10 had been removed from the Touareg.

Weighing in at 774Ib, this was a lot heavier than anticipated.

But the Grind Hard Plumbing team was really impressed by it.

“This engine is an engineering masterpiece. There’s not a single belt on the entire, all of the accessories are gear driven,” one of the hosts commented.

“And it’s just so much more impressive and complicated than I ever knew when we started this project.”

By the end of the video, there was still work left to do on the road towards a diesel powered Ferrari.

“It’ll fit…it just needs some rearranging,” they said of the engine’s compatibility with its new Ferrari home.

But the team had had a promising start.

We’re eagerly anticipating the result of this VW-Ferrari mashup, and considering what Grind Hard Plumbing has delivered in the past, we know it’ll be good.
