This driver got a bit more than they bargained for when they found two bizarre items in the glovebox of their 2006 Toyota Avensis

When rooting around in the car, you often find some hidden gems, but this driver revealed that deep in their Toyota, two items were sitting ready to assist its driver.

The objects were put there in the event of a road traffic collision or other accident.

But since the 2006 Toyota Avensis was released almost 20 years ago, technology has slightly advanced since then.

This 2006 Toyota Avensis has two bizarre items hidden in the glovebox

When buying a car, you’ll sometimes find interesting objects that you didn’t know were there in the first place.

And newer cars have impressive safety features and measures that help keep drivers safe while out on the open road.

From integrated SOS buttons to AI assistants, different car manufacturers have their own ways of handling safety.

However, one driver found out that even older cars thought about keeping their customers safe, too.

This Reddit user took to the site to show what his 2006 Toyota Avensis had to offer, and it’s not quite what you’d expect.

The Avensis was released in the ’90s and was ‘powered by the same range of four-cylinder engines as the Carina E,’ according to Toyota itself.

Inside this particular Avensis was a unique set of gifts. The owner revealed that inside the glovebox was a kit designed to help if they got into a crash.

“My 2006 Avensis has a single-use photo camera in the glove box to take pictures of an accident, as well as a crayon to mark damage and a flashlight,” stated the Redditt user.

Back in 2006, camera phones weren’t as common, so the use of the disposable camera would have been beneficial. And the addition of a torchlight is genius.

You have to admit, though, Toyota clearly thought about customer care and safety thoroughly when releasing the Avensis.

The internet reacted to the find and was impressed by the safety measure

“Toyota Accident Assistance (now called Toyota Accident Care) is still a thing in the UK, although they no longer supply those kits with new cars. The phone number is still correct,” said one gearhead.

“That is actually a really cool idea, and I might put that in my car (just in case),” said another impressed driver.

“Older base models include more gifts over a fully loaded newer model. From useful tools, physical controls, to the spare tire,” said another user.

But safety measures in cars vary, from different systems to objects.

For example, Tesla even implemented a little-known feature to enhance the safety of its cars even further.

Plus, your iPhone has a secret in-car feature not many people know about, and if used properly, it can help a condition that affects one in three people.

You can take a look at the glovebox design below on Reddit.
