The Kansas-based owner of a 2013 Toyota Avalon cut a deeply irritated and frustrated figure until an independent mechanic stepped in and saved the day.

His car was suffering from an annoying rattling noise – and four different Toyota mechanics were unable to find a fix for it.

As a last resort, the man in question headed to a mechanic in Kansas in sheer desperation.

And the mechanic managed to solve the entire issue – with a $10 part.

The most frustrating Toyota ever?

David Long is one of the most popular car mechanics on the internet.

Better known as the Car Wizard on YouTube, he is perhaps best known for his long-standing partnership with Tyler Hoover of Hoovies Garage.

Early last year, Long shared what would become one of his most popular videos.

It featured the deep aggravation felt by the owner of a 2013 Toyota Avalon.

His car was experiencing an infuriating, constant rattling sound every time he drove.

The owner had taken the car to four separate dealerships in the Toyota network, and none of the dealerships had a clue about what the problem was.

All four of the Toyota mechanics thoroughly examined the car’s suspension, bushings, control arms, calipers, and strut mounts from top to bottom.

And not one of the mechanics was able to find the true source of the issue.

Following the failed attempts, the man took it to Kansas as a last resort – and it landed straight with the Car Wizard himself.

Long was determined to find the true cause of the rattling noise, so he spent a long time perusing the vehicle.

For a 12-year-old car, this Toyota was in extremely good shape, with no obvious issues or wear to the exterior or undercarriage.

Kansas mechanic Long and his team decided to take apart the entire steering column unit, determined to find the problem.

And the problem they found is one that haunts many Toyota owners.

It turns out that the issue was the small, star-shaped dampener found in the electric power steering motor.

This dampener had completely deteriorated, leading to movement and rattling from the column that was reverberating throughout the dashboard.

And the best part of it all is that the dampener only cost $10 to replace.

Long and his team spent six hours taking the steering column apart – but it paid off.

The YouTuber also acknowledged that official Toyota mechanics are only able to spend 30 minutes looking over a car for the source of the issue.

This is due to how busy Toyota dealerships tend to be.

In this case, seeking out an independent mechanic made all the sense in the world.

At least this Toyota owner can drive once more without an incredibly aggravating rattle.
