Toyota has announced that the all-new 2026 RAV4 will launch with Mapbox built into its ‘next generation’ infotainment system.

Many of us use apps like Google Maps or Apple Maps to navigate while driving.

But there are alternatives out there, Waze has grabbed headlines lately and more recently Mapbox has thrown its hat into the ring.

Now, Mapbox has joined forces with Toyota to launch its smart navigation tools in the upcoming RAV4.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 will come with Mapbox built-in

Mapbox provides custom maps for a huge range of companies, including The Weather Channel and Starva – think of it as little like the ‘brain’ behind navigation systems.

The company recently announced it had partnered with BMW to launch its latest 3D Lanes feature.

And a week on, Toyota has revealed it has joined forces with Mapbox for its own built-in navigation system.

“Navigation within the new system delivers stunning, detailed maps with smooth rendering performance, fluid animations, and responsive user interactions,” Toyota said in a statement.

The partnership sees Toyota using the Mapbox Studio platform to create a custom map interface that’s designed to match each vehicle’s digital cockpit.

“The result is an intuitive, built-in experience that makes navigation easier and more delightful for drivers,” the company continued.

Mapbox will be first introduced on upcoming RAV4 on its ‘next-generation Toyota Audio Multimedia system’.

The new feature will initially be launched in the US, where the RAV4 remains the best-selling SUV, before being rolled out into other markets including Europe and Australia.

“We’re thrilled to work hand-in-hand with Toyota and its partners to bring its next-generation navigation vision to life,” CEO of Mapbox Peter Sirota said.

“Together, we’re setting a new standard, using our cloud-first location platform to create a driving experience that’s more responsive, customizable, and future-ready.”

What else is new on the Toyota RAV4?

As well as a brand-new next-generation navigation system as standard, the Toyota RAV4 has some other updates and upgrades

Images revealed earlier this month show that the popular SUV has been given a new-look.

The 2026 model, features a bolder grille, slimmer headlights, and chunkier detailing, which gives it a tougher look, as well more pronounced wheel arches that help it sit lower and wider.

There was also a big change when it came to the powertrain, with Toyota opting to ditch the gas option.

For 2026, the RAV4 will be offered as either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, with the standard hybrid delivering up to 236hp in all-wheel-drive form.
