The Toyota Tacoma is currently outselling every single Lexus EV combined, a striking reflection of America’s continuing love affair with rugged pickups.
In the first half of 2025 alone, Tacoma sales reached a remarkable 130,873 units, which was roughly double the total of Lexus’s electrified vehicle sales across all its models to date.
That imbalance paints a clear picture: one workhorse of a truck is outperforming an entire luxury EV lineup.
Meanwhile, Lexus’s total electrified sales through mid-2025 topped out at approximately 67,998 units.

Toyota also sold more Tacomas than Corollas
This dynamic highlights broader market trends: Americans love large trucks, and their affair with EVs is starting to look a little shaky, at least compared to other countries around the world.
The Tacoma’s continued dominance in the midsize truck segment is not just a fluke.

In Q2 2025 alone, it accounted for 71,048 sales, nearly double its nearest rival, the Chevy Colorado, which saw its own sales surge in the previous quarter.
And year-to-date, Tacoma deliveries are up 88.5 percent compared to the first half of 2024.
In fact, in Q1 2025, Toyota sold more Tacomas than Corollas, proving that the Tacoma is popular even by Toyota’s own standards.
Why the Toyota Tacoma is so popular
The Tacoma’s continued dominance isn’t just about timing, but also reputation.
For decades, the midsize truck has earned a loyal following thanks to its legendary reliability and off-road capability.

With examples of the truck running well past a million miles, the Tacoma has become a favorite among drivers who want a dependable vehicle that can handle daily commutes just as easily as weekend adventures.
That reputation for toughness has kept it at the top of the midsize truck segment for years, and 2025 is proving no different.
Resale value also plays a big role in the Tacoma’s appeal.
Year after year, it ranks among the best vehicles for holding its value, meaning owners can expect strong returns when it comes time to sell or trade in.
Considering EVs have a reputation for having poor resale values, perhaps it’s no surprise that the Toyota Tacoma has managed to outshine the entire Lexus EV fleet.
