Meet the UK man who built a Porsche collection thanks to a business he started by accident

Magnus Walker is a guy from the UK who built an incredible Porsche collection in California.

And he did it after making a fortune with two businesses he started almost by accident.

That’s the sort of story Hollywood screenwriters could win an Oscar for.

It’s probably no coincidence that this happened in California.

Hollywood screenwriters couldn’t come up with a better story

Born in Sheffield, UK, Walker moved to California in the late 1980s, where started his first business, a clothing line, by pure chance.

He’s recounted the story on many occasions.

He once walked into a store with a pair of $10 pants he’d personally re-sewn to make them fit. But those cheap pants got the attention of a store owner who asked Walker if he could find more stuff like that to sell.

So he did, and that grew into a stall on Venice Beach, which grew further into a proper business.

His first business accidentally kick-started his second business in a way that’s equally Hollywood-esque.

Walker and his business partner bought a rundown warehouse in Los Angeles for their clothing business.

But the warehouse also just happened to be perfect for TV shows, commercials, and music videos.

One day, again by pure chance, Walker was asked if his studio was available to rent for a music video.

He said yes, and that’s how his filming location business got started.

His Porsche collection

Even though he occasionally works with other brands, most of the cars he owns are Porsche, and most are 911s.

Among others, he’s owned 911s from nearly every generation, and one-off 911s designed specifically for him by Porsche, including his 1971 Porsche T ‘277’, a very early iteration of the Porsche 911 T you can buy today.

As Walker mostly collects Porsches, most of his Porsches are vintage ones, but his talent as a designer also opened other doors for him.

Just a few days ago, Italian coachbuilder and manufacturer Pininfarina announced a new version of the Battista hypercar designed with, and by, Magnus Walker himself.
