Man takes his Porsche 911 to WeBuyAnyCar but quickly drives it away after finding out how much they'd buy it for

This UK YouTuber took his old Porsche 911 to WeBuyAnyCar and was genuinely shocked when he received the offer.

He had bought the damaged Porsche 911 at auction a few months earlier, before realizing he’d have to fork out even more to make it roadworthy.

Unwilling to do that, he took it to WeBuyAnyCar as an experiment to see what they would offer.

It definitely didn’t go as expected.

The reason why he decided to sell his Porsche 911

As the company’s name suggests, WeBuyAnyCar will buy any car in any condition.

Old, new, used, good shape, bad shape, even broken ones that don’t run – they’ll still buy them.

But they’ll buy them at their price.

The price is always assessed fairly, but it hardly ever matches the seller’s expectations.

YouTuber Shifting Metal bought the car for around $9,200, which sounds like a great deal until you learn why the price was so low.

Aside from the significant cosmetic work required, the YouTuber found out that the only way to make the car fully drivable again was to rebuild the engine, which would cost more than the price of the car.

Around $13,000, to be exact.

That’s why he decided to sell it.

Or at least try.

It didn’t go as planned.

WeBuyAnyCar’s offer

There are generally two steps if you want to sell a car to one of these companies.

You can start with an online valuation, which is followed by a thorough in-person inspection.

At the end of the day, that’s what makes or breaks the deal.

The YouTuber took his broken Porsche 911 to WeBuyAnyCar to see what he was offered in person.

At his local branch, the YouTuber admitted that the car’s engine wasn’t in the best condition – which, as far as understatements go, is award-worthy.

This catastrophic fault was on top of existing issues with the interior and bodywork.

The original valuation – the one he received online – was pretty low, but the in-person one was worse.

WeBuyAnyCar offered him £5,000, which, at the time of filming, was equivalent to around $6,900.

The UK YouTuber admitted the offer ‘wasn’t too bad’ considering the Porsche’s engine issues, but stressed that it was ‘far too little’ for him to consider selling.

“I don’t think I’d ever let this car go for £5,000. That just seems absolutely crazy,” he said.

It’s not always this bad

It’s a universal rule of thumb that selling your car through intermediaries is always easier but generally less profitable.

After all, you’re essentially paying for a service.

Even so, companies and platforms like WeBuyAnyCar in the UK or CarMax in the US are generally fair, which means the offer you get can sometimes be perceived as ‘good’ even by the seller.

By definition, sellers can be biased and will often see an offer as a bit low.

But there are exceptions.

Not long ago, a Cybertruck owner received an offer equivalent to nearly 80 percent of the truck’s MSRP.

Not bad for a used car.
