Universal Studios Hollywood is working on a Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster that will hit speeds of up to 72mph.

The theme park has shared new details of the upcoming attraction that’s set to open next year.

It will be the first high-speed outdoor coaster at the park.

It’ll also be the largest by a decent margin, which is sure to delight thrill-seekers.

The Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster claims a title

Across three decades, the Fast and Furious franchise has showcased some of the most powerful and exotic cars in existence – like the super-rare 2013 Rally Fighter from Fast & Furious 8 that sold on SBX Cars for $118,000.

As with many long-running movie franchises, Fast and Furious it’s taken on a bit of a life of its own and there’s now all sorts of movie tie-ins including toys, video games and its own spin-off TV series.

And in 2026 it’ll be lending its name to a super-fast roller coaster at Hollywood’s Universal Studios.

The Fast and Furious roller coaster will hit speeds of up to 72mph as it races along the 4,100-foot-long track.

In fact, when it opens the roller coaster will earn itself the title of the fastest at Universal Studios Hollywood. We’re sure Dominic Toretto would be delighted.

Called the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the innovative roller coaster actually does drift thanks to a ground-breaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride cars that will ‘create a seamless sensation of drifting cars’. Clever.

Universal Studios Hollywood has shared first footage of the roller coaster, which you can see in the clip above, while also sharing some mock-ups of how the ride will look.

Those waiting to take a spin on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will queue up inside a large warehouse that’s been designed to look like the garages from the movie franchise.

The ride is set to open up pretty soon

Executive Vice President & General Manager, Universal Studios Hollywood Scott Strobl has hailed the new attraction as ‘inspiring’ and said he can’t wait until it’s up and running.

“Watching the progress of this incredible roller coaster come to life is truly spectacular,” Strobl said.

“2026 is just around the corner and we are equally as excited as our guests to introduce such an inspiring new ride to our theme park portfolio.

“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood that will not only transform the topography of our destination but will infuse an entirely new level of adrenaline to our already dynamic theme park.

“We look forward to riding it ourselves and to welcoming guests to experience it in the very near future.”

As yet, an opening date hasn’t been released but it seems as though it could be early next year.
