There are a few dominating navigation apps, including Waze and Apple Maps, but this quiet Google Maps alternative may just be the best yet.

From speed camera recognition to real-time traffic updates, the Sygic system may make your life easier than ever before.

After drivers tested it out, some even professed to switching over for good, thanks to features such as lane switching and greater offline capabilities.

So, join us as we deep dive into the app, which actually isn’t as new as you’d think.

Meet Sygic Maps – the Google Maps alternative you need to know about

It’s no secret that Google Maps is a tool that many of us use every day, but forget every map app you’ve used up until now.

It turns out that there is a lesser-known alternative that some users claim is better than the OG, in more ways than one.

Sygic Maps claims to be the ‘world’s most advanced offline GPS Navigation app for iPhone, Android, and Windows phones’, and has been floating around various app stores for over a decade.

One Hot Cars journalist tested out the app and revealed that after switching, they are simply never going back.

So let’s dive into the perks of Sygic, shall we?

When testing out the Google Maps alternative, the driver found that they could download the full state of Nebraska, instead of ending up in difficulty when using other apps by having to download segments.

In fact, the BBC even reported that it has been installed on over 50 million phones, and the company explained that it was one of the first to hit app stores.

Even though Google Maps is great when it comes to areas with signal and providing live information, Sygic seems slightly more advanced with speed limit alerts, something that Google doesn’t emphasize quite as much.

The Map quality has also impressed users thanks to data from TomTom and OpenStreetMaps, meaning it is up to date and in-depth. After all, we all know that TomTom ruled navigation in the 2000s

What other features does the Sygic app have?

Well, aside from letting users download entire states and countries to navigate, other features have impressed drivers thanks to their versatility.

The app has ‘Lane Guidance’ which lets you know when and where to switch lanes, as well as fuel price information, EV mode, and Voice Guided Navigation.

But, most impressive of all may be the Dash Cam, which allows users to record the road in front of them even when navigating, with the app automatically saving the footage.

So, even though Google Maps remains the standard for urban and city areas, Sygic is the best for exploring the countryside and is a great general backup option.

It seems there’s a not-so-new kid on the block when it comes to navigation systems, and for those who are traveling back to their hometowns this Christmas, it could be a great time to test it out to the max.
