Showing the strength of intergalactic technology from the US, American company AST SpaceMobile just rolled out the largest ever commercial communications array, a 2,400 square feet satellite named BlueBird 6.
It will serve as the largest ever commercial communications array antenna.
Following in the footsteps of NASA and SpaceX, the Texas-based broadband network provider is the latest to establish a presence in the Earth’s low orbit zone (LEO).
But the sixth instalment of their outer space jigsaw is the biggest of all time, rolled out like a carpet the size of half a basketball court.

AST SpaceMobile launches BlueBird 6, the largest ever commercial communications array
Similar to Starlink heading into space to provide better internet coverage, the AST SpaceMobile BlueBird 6 aims to deliver ‘blanket coverage’ of 4G and 5G connections around the globe.
It’s the latest of a few SpaceX rivals to take to orbit with the philosophy, but in typical American fashion, AST SpaceMobile is going large.
Launched on February 10, BlueBird 6 holds the record for the largest commercial communications array ever deployed in LEO, and can achieve peak cellular broadband speeds of 120 megabits per second.
That would mean millions of people could download GTA VI in a couple of hours on their personal hotspots alone.

The BlueBird 6 is the sixth of sixty satellites that AST SpaceMobile intends to deploy, but it is slated to be ten times the size of any of the 1-5 units.
It was originally launched into the sky on December 23, 2025, from the Satish Dhawan Space Center aboard India’s LVM3 rocket, before unfolding like Aladdin’s carpet.
Having signed agreements with over 50 network providers, such as Vodafone, Verizon, Google, and AT&T, the satellite scheme is on track to provide internet signal and service to over three billion users.

The sky is not the limit
There are a few drawbacks to the BlueBird 6, though. Astronomers have recently claimed that these huge satellites are going to disrupt the skies as they can shine brighter than the stars.
Then, with another 54 possibly on the way from the American company, boasting massive sizes, the overcrowding Kessler theory could come into play.

But for now, internet service is thriving in space, and China is even planning on making a LEO traffic control to make sure satellites like BlueBird 6 can stay in orbit without any collisions.
BlueBird 6 might not be the largest ever commercial communications array for long, though, as it will plan on beating itself with future instalments being launched from its new rocket as early as the end of February 2026.
