History happened ever so quietly on March 2nd after amazing video footage of a US company’s moon landing was presented to the world in such high definition that commenters declared it to be CGI.

Private US company Firefly Aerospace successfully managed to park the ‘Blue Ghost’ Lunar Lander on the moon, being the first people in over five decades to do it successfully without a disaster or the lander falling over.

Blue Ghost was carrying high-quality camera equipment, a drill, and a vacuum installed to try and get as much footage and dust and dirt for NASA to look at and analyze.

This marks a spectacular achievement in the history of space, but it all happened so quietly that some social media users took to social media to argue the footage was CGI or AI.

A moon landing in 2025?

It feels like there should have been a bigger deal made about the fact that there was a moon landing on Sunday, which is a huge step forward for space exploration.

Private US aerospace company Firefly Aerospace kept its plans for landing on the moon fairly to itself, but on March 2nd, its Lunar Lander successfully landed on the moon.

It is the first time in 53 years that a lunar lander has managed to park on the moon without falling over, due to the lander, known as ‘Blue Ghost’ being built to be wide and squat, making it more stable.

During it’s landing, Blue Ghost was sending back some spectacular footage including pictures of our home planet on the way to the moon, and as it landed, we got the chance to see a moon landing in hi-definiton, something we had never seen before.

Blue Ghost is carrying equipment on behalf of NASA, so that they can find out more about the lunar surface.

As well as taking selfies, the lander can also vacuum away sediment that covers literally everything, a complaint that the Apollo moonwalkers had.

Mostly, the internet’s response to this spectacular footage has been one of awe and fascination, but there are a few people who remain very unconvinced.

It’s not CGI

While the general consensus online to this footage has been one of excitement, with commenters on the video posted by @SawyerMerritt on X, saying things like: “This is what progress looks like!”

Another said: “Incredible moment for space exploration, just imagine the possibilities that lie ahead for humankind.”

Some had issue with it saying things like: “[Am I an] a**hole for still not believing this is real footage?”

Another commenter declared: “So it is AI. Got it.”

One witty commenter joked: “Now that was probably real!”

Clearly, this person was poking fun at various fake moon landing theories over the years.

This is one small step for man(made equipment) and a giant leap for mankind and we can’t wait to see what this means for the future of space exploration.
