This US man decided to buy himself a 2003 Toyota Tacoma with not-inconsequential 200,000 miles on the clock.
But he found that there was a very unintended consequence to owning that pickup.
Davis Owen is the man in question.
And a very strange phenomenon has started happening since he bought the truck.

US man finds a strange consequence to owning a Toyota Tacoma
When Davis Owen bought his first-generation, 2003 Toyota Tacoma, he was pretty happy with himself.
And why wouldn’t he be? It’s notorious for its reliability and performance in pretty much any setting.
So when Davis took to TikTok to explain his ownership experience, it caught quite a few people by surprise.
Because it turns out that owning a 22-year-old Toyota Tacoma has come with an unintended consequence.
“Dude, no one told me when I was buying this 2003 Toyota Tacoma that every middle-aged man in a five-mile radius was going to just, like, come out into the woods and try to talk to me about my truck,” he says.
Yes, you read that right – Davis’ truck attracts a very unique fanbase.
And these interactions can happen literally anywhere at any time.

“Like, I’m in the parking lot of Lowe’s, and dudes just be, like, coming up, making me roll down my window and be like, ‘Dude, your truck, I will kill my child for your truck,’” Owen says.
Naturally, such a level of interest is downright baffling to the owner.
“Like, I’m like, you want this 2003 Toyota Tacoma with 200,000 miles on it, like, I don’t know what it is, dude,” he says.
What is so humorous about all of this is that Davis feels like he is getting a level of popularity that he has never experienced before in his life.
“I feel like a hot girl right now,” he says. “Middle-aged men are hitting on me constantly, talking about my truck.”

First-gen pickup is the stuff of legend
So why did the Toyota Tacoma command such far-and-wide fanfare?
To put it simply, the first-generation Toyota Tacoma, produced from 1995 to 2004, has earned a legendary reputation for reliability.
These trucks are known for running well past the 250-300,000-mile mark with proper care.
Additionally, its relatively simple mechanical design makes it a lot easier to work on and maintain compared to modern vehicles.

And the fandom even extends to Hollywood royalty.
Legendary actor Christian Bale is revered for still driving a first-gen Toyota Tacoma as his daily vehicle.
During a Ford v Ferrari press tour interview, Bale reportedly said, “It’s practical. My friends need it for moving stuff.”
If it’s good enough for Christian Bale, then it’s certainly good enough for us.
