Not all of us are lucky enough to have a car our grandpa used to own, but YouTuber Captain Crankshaft is fortunate that he owns his grandpa’s 1995 Chevy Caprice wagon.

Over the past few months, the YouTuber has been attempting to modify the car to make it cooler than when he rode in it as a kid.

However, a few mistakes were made along the way, so he had to make a few adjustments while also trying to update the old Chevy.

The big question is, of course, did he make an old Chevy Caprice a cool car?

How the YouTuber wanted to make his grandpa’s 1995 Chevy Caprice cooler

Improving the look of the Chevy Caprice was one area the YouTuber was working on for the car.

It was a minor change, but Crankshaft added brand new chrome wheels to the wagon.

They certainly looked the part, keeping the 1990s vibe yet adding a little bit of flair to the drab design.

Some of the upgrades, however, were more for practical reasons rather than aesthetics.

For example, a broken coolant temperature sensor was playing havoc with the 1990s Chevy.

That took some time to fix, which involved rewiring the fans so they constantly ran when the car was on.

More essential repairs were needed, with the brake pads badly worn and the rear window malfunctioning.

Making a car cooler sometimes involves more boring tasks.

Some things, however, did not work out.

This is why the 1995 Caprice needed some modifications

Crankshaft wanted to upgrade the suspension and slam the car to the ground.

But a cheap lowering kit didn’t work, as the springs would not mount properly, and the alignment was all off.

That will have to be something to sort out another time.

So, why exactly did the YouTuber want to upgrade this old Caprice?

Well, they aren’t exactly the most exciting of cars that Chevrolet ever made.

While the top model had a big 5.7-liter V8 under the hood, it only produced 260hp.

As a big station wagon from the 1990s, it was also heavy, weighing over 4,400lbs.

Plus, it isn’t the prettiest or most exciting car to look at.

When he’s finished, Crankshaft will have given his grandpa’s 1995 Chevy Caprice the upgrades it deserves.
