Talladega Speedway racetrack is one of the true highlights of the NASCAR calendar.

The 80,000-seater track was built all the way back in 1969, and is located in Lincoln, Alabama.

One thing most fans do not realize is just how steep the incline of the Talladega Speedway track actually is.

But a new video has just been released – and it brings home that reality.

Talladega Speedway is unbelievably steep

Like most NASCAR oval tracks, Talladega Speedway is a steep, sweeping track.

Many fans and observers often don’t realize just how steep the banks of a NASCAR track actually are.

But a video, uploaded to Reddit, has been going viral – and it shows just how steep the track is.

In the video, which can be seen here, a man is standing near the bottom of the Talladega Speedway track.

He then slowly starts to make the climb – yes, a climb – up the gradient of the banking.

The man’s quads must be absolutely burning by the time he reaches the top of the banking.

After reaching the side fencing, the man reveals what the gradient angle of Talladega Speedway is.

And it turns out that the gradient angle of the track is an unbelievable 33 degrees.

That means that, from the bottom to the top, the banking of Talladega is almost at a 45-degree angle.

Alabama track is one of the sport’s most iconic venues

Talladega Speedway itself is one of the jewels in the crown of the NASCAR calendar.

For one thing, the Alabama track remains the largest track on the schedule.

It is also a history-making track – as 1970 saw it break an unbelievable speed record.

Back in March 1970, Buddy Baker was testing the Chrysler Engineering No. 88 blue 1969 Dodge Daytona car.

While testing, Baker managed to use the track to break the 200mph speed barrier.

Interestingly, the fastest lap ever recorded at the track is a speed of 221mph.

This was set by Mark Donohue in August 1975 whilst driving a Porsche 917-30.

However, the fastest NASCAR time ever set remains the 212mph set by Bill Elliott in 1987.

Talladega Speedway is also often the venue for critical play-off races to be decided.

The steep, flowing nature of the track is also considered to provide some of the best action in the sport.
