After splashing $30,000 on a fake Bugatti from Alibaba, this Virginia man was left as deflated as a popped tyre, but with a pump and some genius thinking, he turned his fortune around and sailed off into the sunset.

When you dream of a Bugatti delivery, you imagine the sun bouncing off the carbon fibre roof and the roar from the 8.0-liter W16 engine, which leaves everyone speechless.

What you don’t expect is a hack job paint display and a chassis made completely of foam. But when you order a Bugatti from Alibaba, that’s exactly what you get.

But, foam floats… and when life gives you lemonade…

Buying a Bugatti off Alibaba goes as well as you can expect

Unlike Temu, where people have been able to build working supercars from the parts sourced on the website, Alibaba isn’t quite as useful.

Replica cars bought from the Chinese site are often worse for wear, and Virginia-based YouTube personality Carter Sharer found out the hard way.

He previously unboxed a Bugatti from Alibaba, and given that he paid $30K, he was ripped off.

Not even in driving condition, the car was a complete mess. Made from foam, the Bugatti had no engine, no interior, and wasn’t even a close shape to the likes of a Veyron or Chiron.

It didn’t even have the signature grille.

But, he wasn’t to be thwarted in his hunt to make the ‘coolest’ supercar, and he actually made a working powertrain that saw the car ‘drive’.

Using an RC Monster Truck with a 50 cc two-stroke engine and a wooden chassis, Sharer managed to get the car moving.

Although with a lack of seats, he was forced to ride it like a horse.

For $30K, it might just be the worst Alibaba supercar of all time – even worse than the disastrous Ferrari 458 Italia.

Inflating his spirits – and the supercar

While the brand once built its own superyacht, in collaboration with builders Palmer Johnson, the Bugatti Niniette 66 is a few million dollars outside of your average budget.

So Sharer came up with the idea of turning his very floaty foam Bugatti into his own supercar boat.

In a new upload on his channel, the content creator removed the RC powertrain and went to work installing a waterbound motor instead.

Mounting jet thrusters on either side, he was able to get the car to sail around a small lake and use a remote control to pilot it from his rooftop perch.

“Guys, the Bugatti boat is actually amazing. This was an incredible build,” he said.

Talk about making the most of the hand you’re dealt…
