Two men – allegedly from Texas – have reportedly been thwarted by an Apple AirPod trick in their attempts to steal a Volkswagen Beetle in Southern California.

An incident in February was recently reported as one California person claimed that their Volkswagen Beetle had been stolen.

However, an ingenious Apple hack has been used to aid the police.

Now, the car has been recovered and two bandits are left scratching their heads – or ears.

Apple Airpods catch Volkswagen Beetle thieves in California

Car thieves aren’t always as bright as the ignition sparks that they create.

Previously one stolen Ferrari was spotted just two blocks over from where the incident occurred as the assailant was parading their new supercar.

This time though, a Volkswagen Beetle has been recovered after two men were thwarted by a pair of Apple Airpods.

The Beetle, stolen from near Orange County in Southern California, had a pair of Apple Airpod earphones within it, which were tracked through the Find My Phone app.

In a statement on Instagram, the Irvine Police Department said that they received a call ‘from a victim of an auto theft who said the AirPods in her stolen Volkswagen were tracking.’

“After obtaining the description of the victim’s car, our patrol officers quickly located it in the shopping center parking lot with two men inside,” they continued.

Both men were ‘charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and conspiracy to commit a crime and transported to Orange County Jail.”

Bodycam footage showed the Police department recovering the vehicle.

People have recently been urged to use Apple products such as the Air Tag or other tracking devices to protect their cars, just as this man did with his $575K Ferrari, which was tracked down similarly to the Bettle.

American police have made a number of high-profile recoveries lately as a stolen Steve McQueen tribute Jaguar was found in a Texas garage months after it was first reported missing.
