The 2027 EX60 is here, and the Volvo CEO insists it proves that years of frustrating Volvo software issues are finally behind the automaker.
For a while, Volvo fans had grown wary of the brand’s ambitious push into software-defined vehicles, especially after the EX90’s early glitches caused headaches for both owners and engineers.
But now, with the debut of the 2027 EX60, Volvo claims that it has fully solved those issues, giving the company a chance to leap ahead of its legacy competitors.
It’s a bold statement, but there might be some substance behind it.

The 2027 EX60 has an unusual collaboration with Gemini AI
The EX60 rides on Volvo’s SPA3 platform and is fully software-defined.

That means updates, new features, and bug fixes can now be delivered faster and more reliably.
A trio of powertrains give the rear-wheel-drive P6 369 horsepower, while the mightiest P12 has a staggering 670 horsepower, letting it hit 0-60 mph in roughly 3.8 seconds.
The battery supports fast charging, and offers up to 503 miles of range under WLTP testing.
According to Volvo, that’s enough to drive from Paris to Amsterdam without plugging in once.

Inside, the SUV comes loaded with advanced driver-assistance features and a brand-new infotainment system developed in-house.

The car’s cameras also work with Google’s Gemini AI to inform drivers of their surroundings, which is a really awesome feature.

The Volvo CEO was candid about past problems
Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson said building the software stack in-house was a ‘huge change’, but now gives Volvo control over the user experience.
Chief Strategy Officer Michael Fleiss added that software-defined vehicles are rare among legacy automakers.
“We’re now one of the few who have achieved this,” he said, noting the lessons learned from the EX90.
Pricing for the EX60 starts at $64,900, placing it in the premium mid-size EV segment.
The cabin blends Scandinavian design with tech-forward touches, offering a refined experience for drivers and passengers alike.

Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Engineering Officer, said the new SUV is fully stabilized.
“Even our flagship vehicles are now reliable and feature-rich,” he said.
After years of Volvo software issues, the EX60 may be proof that the carmaker is ready to compete with Tesla, BMW, and other EV leaders.
For buyers looking for a practical yet well-engineered EV, the EX60 sets a high bar.
