In a move that will change the electric vehicle industry forever, promising more range and charge than ever before, Donut Lab claims the first production of a solid-state battery could be on the market by April.

In the last year alone, technology has pushed the vehicular industry into new realms.

Particularly with the development of cutting-edge batteries, moving away from lithium-ion predecessors to new semi-solid-state power units.

However, the goal has always been to have solid-state batteries powering our cars further and more quickly than ever before, and now that dream could be a reality in as little as three months.

What is a solid-state battery?

So far, EVs have been powered by the same lithium-ion power units that you find in laptops and cameras, only much better.

But they are limited, and it’s believed that the top-of-the-range EVs have almost hit the ceiling of what’s possible with this tech.

So, in steps the solid-state battery.

Recently defined in full by Chinese authorities, the jargon-less meaning here is that they use solid lithium inside the battery pack, rather than liquid, which has now been crafted to hold more cells and subsequently produce more power.

But in a race to build the first solid-state battery, Donut Lab claims to have beaten its Chinese counterparts and debuted it at CES 2026.

“In theory, solid state fixes the biggest limitations of lithium ion,” said Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki.

“Energy density, charging speed, lifetime, and safety. But here’s the reality. Until today, there are no vehicles in production using solid-state batteries. Not one, not at scale, and not shipping to customers.”

But Donut Lab is about to change the industry, as Lehtimäki claims that his company’s product is ready to rumble (softly and silently) within the next three months.

Adding to what Lehtimäki said during the reveal, the CEO spoke to Electrek and revealed that the battery will be ‘shipping in customer vehicles within 10 weeks.’

The high-stakes claim will be put to the test when the company drops its first vehicle supported by this technology.

Collaborating with Verge Motorcycles, the TS Pro is set to have a full charge time of under ten minutes, will boast 600km of range on one charge, and the battery itself will cost less than the standard lithium-ion counterpart.

The Verge TS Pro and Donut Lab’s solid-state battery debuted at CES 2026 last week.

Soon, global tech giants like Samsung will enter the solid-state battery world, powering BMW EVs.

But for now, this two-wheeler will be leading the industry to a new dawn, if it follows through on its promises.
