The world’s largest electric vehicle is a ship that is currently under construction and is set to break multiple world records ahead of its official launch into service.

Called the China Zorrilla, this huge ship rivals the RMS Titanic in terms of its size, and it moved under its own power for the first time at the start of 2026.

It is being assembled by Incat Tasmania, and it could be a game-changer for shipping thanks to its electrical power.

The huge ship is set to enter service in 2026, with enough power beneath the skin to power nearly 500 Tesla EVs.

How much power is in the China Zorilla?

It is quite difficult to comprehend just how much power the large electric ship has.

Under the hood, so to speak, are 250 tons of batteries, delivering up to 40 megawatts of power.

That is the equivalent of 487 Tesla electric cars.

It’s also four times larger than any previous maritime battery installation.

The China Zorilla needs all that power, as it has to transport 225 vehicles and 2,100 passengers.

But given its size, it has an impressive top speed of 29mph.

Once finished, the ship will make its way to South America.

From there, it will transport cars and people across the River Plate, linking Buenos Aires to Uruguay.

This is now the world’s largest electric vehicle

The size of the ship is truly daunting, and it makes EVs like the Tesla Cybertruck look like toys.

Initially, it was set to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), but it was decided that electric power was the way forward.

The ship has cost $200 million to build, is over 426 feet long (130 meters), and weighs 14,000 gross tonnes.

Sea trials began in January 2026, eight months after it was launched at builder Incat’s facility in Australia.

Inside, there will be a huge retail shopping space, spanning a massive 25,000 square feet, and it is the largest retail space on any ferry in the world.

The world’s largest electric vehicle should be ready for service later in 2026, after its extensive testing program.
