It’s not often houses with a genuine pedigree stretching as far back as the Middle Ages come up on the market.

Located in Luddesdown, Kent in the UK, it’s currently available for rent at a whopping £6,000 a month!

This flint and stone built Grade I listed property with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms is thought to date back as far as the 1000s-1100s.

This makes it one of the oldest houses in Britain.

One of its former owners is also quite the historical figure! It was owned by William the Conquerer’s half-brother Odo, before he was imprisoned in 1082 on suspicion of treason.

As you’d expect from a home of that age, it has plenty of period features.

There’s a Tudor chimney, a Norman corbelled fireplace and some unique murals in the plaster, as well as plenty of exposed wooden beams and stonework.

It even has a traditional ‘great hall’-style room, so you’ll feel like a proper lord of the manor.

The outside is also incredibly picturesque, with gardens galore including a “well-kept rose garden and established orchid”, a walled garden “with a sunken pond in the middle” and a “small paddock beyond”.

That all sounds very lovely indeed! There’s a flat area as well that would be suitable for playing croquet, if that’s your bag.

That doesn’t mean it’s all period quirks with no useability, though.

There is a modern swimming pool complex on the property that includes his and hers changing/shower rooms, a separate kitchen and boiler room and a sauna.

There are also several outbuildings on the property that could be used to store things or used as workshops.

While Luddesdown is a pretty rural location, it isn’t completely in the middle of nowhere.

It’s within an easy drive of the towns of Chatham, Rochester, Maidstone and Gravesend, as well as being within fairly close proximity of all of the London airports and Ebbsfleet International station.

All this considered, this Kentish countryside retreat with tons of history and character could be the perfect property for one lucky family.

That’s if they can afford the rent…
