Kia EV6 named 2022 car of the year

The Kia EV6 has been crowned the 2022 car of the year, making it the first Korean car to win the award.

The prestigious award ceremony took place in Geneva and the EV6 was awarded 279 points, followed closely by the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric with 265 points, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, in the third position with 261 points.

A juror said “the EV6 stands out by combining energy efficiency, a large capacity battery and ultra-fast charging”.

At the beginning of 2020, Kia had a bit of a midlife crisis and decided to completely renovate its logo and line-up.

As it turns out, the results have only been positive for the South Korean brand.

Its new design language follows the ideal of ‘Opposites United’ and has seen the arrival of a completely overhauled design.

The EV6 was the first of Kia’s new vehicles and sits on the brand’s all-new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

This enables it to produce good performance, have AWD, and have fast charging capabilities.

With this, the EV6 has an estimated 482 kilometres of all-electric range and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality that allows it to act as an oversized portable charger.

The EV6 comes with two battery options – a 58 kWh and a larger 77.4 kWh.

The power outputs vary quite a lot depending on the EV6 variant.

It starts at 167 horsepower and goes up to 576 horsepower with the range-topping GT variant.

Inside, the EV6 has industry leading technology and safety systems – including a flat-floor interior made with sustainable materials.

Prices for EV6 model variants start from £40,945 and go up to £51,945 for the GT variant.

Each is shipped with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty as all Kia vehicles come with.
