An American who owns a 16-year-old Chevrolet Malibu took it to a mechanic as he claimed the car was ‘possessed.’
YouTuber Car Wizard was the man tasked with finding out what was going on with the car, which had done over 170,000 miles.
It was clear that it wasn’t possessed, but there were some rather unusual things happening with the car.
Most worryingly was that the issue was playing havoc with the steering, which isn’t what you want on any kind of road!

The owner explained the Malibu’s problems to the Car Wizard
The Car Wizard explained what the owner had told him about the car.
The American sedan has a 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine under the hood, which is still reliable.
But the Chevrolet has a weird issue with the steering, making it difficult to turn left or right.
On top of that, the Malibu also sometimes fails to start, and the owner said that the car has “got a mind of its own.”
A temporary fix that the owner used was to disconnect and reconnect the battery.
However, that only fixes the problem for a day or two before it comes back again.
The owner intends to fix the Malibu if the issue isn’t too costly.
The YouTuber figured out what was wrong with the Chevrolet
The YouTuber then performed his diagnostic of the troublesome Malibu.
Normally, this would be a steering fluid or power steering pump issue.
But as the Malibu has full electric power steering it has no pump or fluid reservoir.
Instead, he checks out the electric motor for the power steering under the dashboard.
This usually spins to give the power steering; however, on this Malibu, it wasn’t working.
The other issue the YouTuber finds is that the Chevrolet needs new ball joints, with the old ones falling apart and leaving the car unsafe.

So, that leaves the owner with a tricky decision.
The car has 174,963 miles on the clock and the repair will cost around $1,000.
However, the Malibu is worth around $2,500, so he has to decide if he wants to sell it and save up for a better car.
Or, as the repair is less than the car’s value, he has to also work out if he should simply repair it.
Not the easiest decision to make.
