This beautiful one-of-one 1978 Ford Mustang Cobra II was left parked for years and is now in desperate need of a helping hand to return it to its former glory.

Originally launched in the 1960s, the Ford Mustang underwent a serious makeover for its second-generation release in 1974.

The newer models boasted a shorter and lighter frame and looked more like the iconic muscle cars we all know and love.

Although the mark two isn’t held in particular high regard these days, the car was a big seller in its time with more than one million sold between 1974 and 1978.

The 1978 Ford Mustang Cobra II isn’t in great condition

But just because the car was popular, doesn’t mean there aren’t some rare early Mustangs out there, such as this one that has been fitted with a K-Code Coupe engine, or this that one that was left to rot for decades before being rescued.

This 1978 Cobra II model suffered a similar fate, according to a listing on eBay, which notes that it has been ‘parked for a long time’.

A quick glance at the car’s exterior reveals that the years have not been kind.

The once-cool looking Cobra II is no longer road-worthy and will require a full restoration to get it back up and running.

The car’s paintwork is in poor state, with surface rust scattered across the bodywork and it’s broad stripes seriously weathered.

Under the hood, the engine is missing some parts and will likely need a complete rebuild to get it back on the road.

So, all in all, it would be a pretty big project for someone to take on.

The car is a very rare model

However, it would also be a very worthwhile job – as it turns out the car is a super rare example.

For starters, it’s one of only 9,005 1978 Mustangs fitted with the Cobra II package.

But it’s its extra optional features that really set it apart.

Although in desperate need of some TLC, the Cobra II has an original 2.3 liter inline, four engine paired with four-speed manual transmission – making it just one of 382, according to Auto Evolution.

Adding to its rarity is its black vinyl bucket seats and its slick black paintwork, narrowing it down to 76 vehicles of its kind.

Thow in the gold stripes down the front, the T-Top roof and its leather wrapped steering wheel, and you are looking at a genuine one-of-a-kind.

A rare gem that just needs some love to get it back on the road.
