Elon Musk speaking with TED

Elon Musk – the world’s richest person – says he doesn’t own a home and is “literally staying at friends’ places and rotating through friends’ bedrooms”.

In a TED interview with Chris Anderson, Elon Musk discusses everything from Tesla to his own personal cash supply.

And that’s what shook us the most, a man who can legit buy any house in the world and he’s not interested.

“In fact, I don’t even own a home right now. I am literally staying at friends’ places [and] if I travel to Pulborough where most of Tesla engineering is, I rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms,” he said in the interview.

Musk was confronted about his $264 billion fortune (which bounces around with the stock price of Tesla).

Musk said: “I think it’s fair to say that if somebody is the king or de facto of a country, they are wealthier than I am”.

When asked about his wealth rising and falling by billions of dollars on any given day, Musk said it was misleading.

“For sure, it would be very problematic if I were consuming billions of dollars a year in personal consumption but that is not the case,” he said.

“I don’t have a yacht [and] I don’t take vacations. The one exception is a plane but if I don’t use the plane, then I have less hours to work.”
