Bugatti built a one-off L’Or Blanc made from porcelain but never revealed the buyer

It's rare, but that's not the only reason why it's so special.

This is one of the rarest Bugattis ever made, and it is actually more than rare, because there’s literally only one.

However, it is not rarity that makes it special – it’s the material.

Based on the Veyron Grand Sport, the car is literally made of porcelain.

They call it the ‘Bugatti L’Or Blanc’, which is French for white gold, and we can see why they would call it that.

The exterior is painted by hand, starting with a blue hue, which is then adorned with five layers of lacquer and porcelain inserts.

When it was unveiled, the then Director of Marketing at Bugatti, Dr Stefan Brungs, explained the idea behind the car in a statement.

“At first, it seems to be an unusual idea to use porcelain in a car, especially in the world’s fastest convertible,” he said.

“But this is what Bugatti stands for, [and] it allows us to continue Ettore Bugatti’s heritage, who himself loved to experiment with new materials.”

There is only one Bugatti L’Or Blanc in existence but, interestingly, the buyer was never revealed.

And the car was hardly ever seen in public.

This is hardly surprisingly, though.

One-off hypercars of this caliber are generally delivered to their owners and immediately end up in air-conditioned, zombie apocalypse-proof bunkers and vaults without ever being driven.

Pity.
