Saudi Arabia will soon have a fully electric fleet of police cars provided by Lucid.
The American startup’s first ever police vehicle was unveiled on 4 February at the World Defense Show in Saudi’s capital, Riyadh.
The forthcoming fleet of EV police cars will be based on the Lucid Air sedan.
Several photos and videos posted online show the police-spec Lucid Air.
It wears the national police livery of black and white with additional equipment on its roof.
There’s an oversized setup of siren and strobe lights which doubles as a carrier for a police drone.
With the press of a button, the upper casing opens, enabling the drone to launch.
The “Police” lettering is emblazoned along both sides of the vehicle, as is Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Public Security logo.
On the hood there’s more “Police” lettering alongside the police number: 911.
Unfortunately, there’s no hint of what’s on the inside, but it’s likely that Lucid modified the cabin to better suit the needs of law-enforcement officers.
Modifications often include extra screen and a mobile radio device, although it’s entirely possible some of these elements have been integrated into the vehicle’s large infotainment display.
It’s also unknown what version of the Lucid Air will make up Saudi Arabia’s police fleet, although if they’re to catch criminals around the country with ease, they should opt for the range-topping Sapphire.
The Sapphire is one of the most powerful sedans in the world, with 1,234 horsepower under its belt.
It has three engines, two at the back and one at the front, and a top speed of 205 mph – or 330 km/h.
The car’s top speed is impressive, but nowhere near as impressive as its acceleration.
From standstill, the Sapphire will dart to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 1.89 seconds.
Zero chance criminals are escaping that!
