In a find that almost defies belief, a rare Maserati has been discovered in a car junkyard.

This car is so hard to come by – in fact – that only 953 were ever made, making it extremely highly sought after.

With 125 convertible versions, only 828 of these stunning coupes were ever produced.

Weirdly, finding abandoned cars isn’t so unusual, as the video below shows.

This one being a right-hand drive makes it even more of a unicorn, with an estimated 20 to 30 units built.

Selling for six figures, most Maserati Mistrals are found cozied away in heated garages.

However, this grand tourer was in a pretty sorry state when it was discovered last month, after being abandoned for many years in a junkyard.

The Maserati Mistral was produced from 1963 to 1970 and is considered a classic.

So it’s certainly not the kind of banger, you’d expect to find tucked away in a building at an unidentified UK junkyard.

Speaking of abandoned car graveyards, Montana has a secret car graveyard full of vintage cars. – some up to a century old.

It’s almost beautiful, in a sad sort of way.

Speaking of which, back to this Maserati.

It seems as if the Italian classic had lived a life on the road before it was unearthed by barn find hunter, IMSTOKZE.

When the Italian gem was unearthed earlier this week, it looked like it spent much of its life off the road.

However, after it was retired from the road, the Maserati appears to have been stripped for restoration.

In fact, several parts missing on both the interior and exterior.

If this is the case, the job was certainly never completed.

Thankfully, per reports by Auto Evolution, the shell may be salvageable – although it will be an expensive project.

And, it’s not the only abandoned car that’s been found lately, with an Acura NSX with a hypersonic jet interior found rotting in the woods.

Not that long ago, somebody also unearthed an abandoned Audi R8 Spyder that looked new after the restoration.

You see, there are hidden treasures everywhere, if you care to look.
