New Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance is ultra-fast with colossal power

Mercedes-AMG just upgraded the GT63 coupe with the new 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance.

It’s most likely the brand’s fastest AMG yet.

While the long name might not exactly roll off the tongue, the car is nothing short of a beast on wheels.

The best part? It’s a plug-in hybrid.

The German automaker’s performance sub-brand unveiled the newest GT63 over Shanghai’s Formula 1 race weekend.

It can produce a whopping 805 hp from its hybrid twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 powertrain.

That’s more horsepower than some hypercars.

What’s more impressive is its 1,047 pound-feet (1,419 Nm) torque.

With this spec, Mercedes-AMG says the GT63 S E Performance can pull off 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in a mere 2.7 seconds.

That makes it faster than the brand’s One hypercar with 1,063 hp.

Although the newest two-door coupe is a hybrid, its battery capacity is only 6.1 kWh, and the automaker didn’t mention anything about the electric-only range.

Well, it’s not about the range in this hybrid coupe, but the battery’s primary focus is on performance.

The gas engine in the front takes care of 603 hp while the electric motor handles the rest.

A nine-speed dual-clutch transmission splits the power between all four wheels of this all-wheel-drive system.

The previous 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe was already a capable sports car, but Mercedes-AMG wanted something better and with more horses.

The German automaker didn’t forget to put in the standard equipment to make the new performance hybrid special.

Moreover, this Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance also gets AMG Active Ride Control adaptive suspension with semi-active hydraulics-based roll control.

Coming to the exterior, it’s quite identical to the standard GT, but the bespoke red badging and a charge port for the battery make it stand out.

While the shift to hybrid is welcoming, Mercedes doesn’t seem to have plans to shift its entire portfolio and go all-electric.

The launch is interestingly timed, as a new Porsche 911 hybrid is set to debut later this year.
