Abarth is set to launch its first all-electric vehicle based on the rapid hot hatch the tuning brand is known for fettling with.
It promises more power, sharper handling and even more outlandish looks – a trend that all EVs seem to adopt.
Exact performance details are not yet announced but it is expected to be above the current Fiat 500 EV in terms of on-road performance.
All versions of the 500 EV get a 42kWh battery that produces 116bhp, allowing for a 0-62mph time of nine seconds and a 93mph top speed.
As for range, the standard 500 EV has a WLTP of 199 miles but with some Abarth performance upgrades, we reckon it will be less than this.
However, Abarth’s electric 500 will need a significant boost in power to match another upcoming retro hot hatch – the 215bhp Renault 5-based Alpine R5.
And excitingly, the Italian tuning company might even be giving the performance EV a fake exhaust note.
It could either sound like a Formula E race car or something that replicates the sound of an Abarth 500 – through a speaker of course.
Since Fiat no longer makes an ICE 500, Abarth doesn’t have a choice but to mess around with all-electric models, but the results could be incredible.
