Chels’ Tesla registration was about to expire, her Bluetooth wouldn’t connect, and the DMV was already haunting her dreams.

So she did what any rational, financially sensible person would do – in girl math terms, anyway – and bought a brand-new Audi e-tron instead of renewing it.

Because why drop a few hundred on paperwork when you can drop a few tens of thousands and get a fresh set of wheels?

But she said she actually had a very good reason for doing it, and it’s resonating with other drivers too.

From Tesla Bluetooth hell to e-tron heaven

The clip opens with Chels sitting in her car, with a text overlay spelling out the math: “My registration was out and my phone wouldn’t connect to my Tesla. So I bought a new car on my way home.”

Next shot – Audi e-tron steering wheel, quick flex.

TikTok comments came in hot.

One woman said she trades in her car every single time registration is due, telling her husband it’s ‘saving [them] money.’

Another got rid of her car when she needed brakes. Someone else? “Did this when I needed new tires.”

Arizona even rewards you for it – trade or sell before your reg expires and you get a refund for the unused months.

Trading up? That’s the perfect blend of girl math and survival instinct.

Girl math meets car culture

What Chels did isn’t random – it’s part of a bigger shift.

Modern cars, especially from luxury brands, tend to lock owners into dealer-only repairs with proprietary parts and special tools.

Both Tesla and Audi play that game.

So when your options are to either pay dealership prices to fix a problem or upgrade, the showroom wins.

Especially for a generation that swaps phones the second the battery starts lagging.

It’s car ownership as a subscription: Bluetooth stops pairing? Upgrade. Tires worn out? Upgrade. Don’t like the vibe? Upgrade. Financially risky? Maybe. But happiness-per-dollar ratio? Off the charts.

Judging by the comment section, plenty of people are ready to throw their keys at the dealer if their infotainment ever freezes.

Chels turned a Bluetooth glitch into a leather-lined, electric-powered fresh start. It might not pass an accountant’s audit, but in girl math, this Audi e-tron basically turned a profit.
