Aston Martin once joined forces with high-end watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre to create a special watch that could be used to unlock your car door.

The two companies began working together back in 2006.

Aston Martin wanted to create a unique way of opening its car doors, without needing a key.

So, Jaeger-LeCoultre set about creating AMVOX2 Transponder – and it didn’t come cheap.

Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre worked together to make a Bond-worthy watch

Long before the Apple Watch was launched, allowing folks to open their car doors with a flick of their wrist, Aston Martin was working on a unique watch idea.

As well as looking smart, because it was created by Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre, the AMVOX2 Transponder would allow the owner to simply press a button on the watch and open up their car door.

The first AMVOX2 Transponder was launched in 2006 and was a real piece of engineering.

According to a report in Forbes from the time, Jaeger-LeCoultre created a special sapphire crystal that acted like a button.

Pressing down on the lift side of the crystal would open the car, while pressing the right would lock it.

The original watch was available in three different models, each one designed to only work with its corresponding car: an Aston Martin DBS, DB9, or Rapide.

However, in 2014, a second edition AMVOX2 Transponder was released.

This time around, the watch could be set up to open any Aston Martin model.

It was even given a redesigned dial, and fitted with an improved antenna system for the transponder device.

As you might have already guessed, the James Bond-worthy watches didn’t come cheap.

A new one would set you back a whopping $34,000, while even a used model could sell for upwards of $20,000.

Luxury carmakers and luxury watchmakers go hand-in-hand

Aston Martin isn’t the only high-end carmaker that has partnered with an equally high-end watchmaker.

Richard Mille has worked with both McLaren and Ferrari.

Earlier this year, Richard Mille and Ferrari launched the limited edition RM 42-01, which costs up to $1.5 million.

While Jacob & Co made a limited edition Bugatti Chiron timepiece, one of which was snapped up by Cristiano Ronaldo.
