A stunning Ferrari 250 GTO has sold at auction for over $38 million, despite the sports car not being fully original.
The 250 GTO is one of the most valuable cars ever made, with the highest price for one being $70 million after a private sale.
Mecum Auctions sold this particular Ferrari at their Kissimmee, Florida, auction recently, and its price was actually low compared to what other examples of the car have sold for.
But despite this car having some non-original components detracting from its value, it still sold for a staggering amount of money.

Why this Ferrari 250 GTO didn’t break auction records
Several reasons explain the lower-than-normal price for this particular 250 GTO.
For starters, this example of the famous Ferrari does not have the original engine.
Under the hood is a 3.0-liter 300hp V12 engine, just not the original to this sports car.
The paint has also been changed several times over the years.
However, this is the only example of the GTO finished in the gorgeous Bianco white by Ferrari itself.

Even with those slight discrepancies, it’s a surprise that the car didn’t sell for more.
Because of that, this 250 GTO has actually had an amazing life.
It’s even been driven by some of the most famous racing drivers of its era.
Famous racers once drove this stunning Ferrari
Some of the drivers who got behind the wheel of this Ferrari speak for themselves.
Graham Hill, Jack Sears, Richie Ginther, Mike Parkes, Roy Salvadori, Mike MacDowel, and Mike Salmon all drove this car.
Most notable are Graham Hill and Richie Ginther.
Hill won the 1962 and 1968 F1 world championships, and Ginther took Honda’s first F1 victory at the 1965 Mexico Grand Prix.
The car does retain period racing details, such as its hood louvers and the cockpit air hose.

Since 1999, it has been part of the Jon Shirley Collection.
Selling for $38.5 million makes this GTO a comparative bargain compared to other examples. But it also shows that even with non-original components, just how valuable these cars are.
The value of the Ferrari 250 GTO sports car is unlikely to decrease anytime soon!
