In an impressive demonstration of power, Audi drove a production car up a 37 degree ski jump in Finland.
It’s certainly not the traditional way of showing off a car’s capabilities.
But when it came time to flaunt the quattro, Audi didn’t pull any punches.
It wasn’t the first time the manufacturer executed a stunt like this, either.

This production car drove up a 37-degree ski jump in Finland
To get the full context for this stunt, we need to act like a DeLorean and go back in time.
In 1986, rally race car driver Harald Demuth drove an Audi 100 CS quattro to the top of the Pitkavouri ski jump in Kaipola, Finland.

Footage of the drive would be used in iconic advertisements throughout Europe.
Fast forward to 2005, and the company wanted to prove that lightning could strike twice.
This time around, Audi engineer Uwe Bleck was in the driver’s seat of an A6 4.2 quattro.
The ski jump was still the same, 19 years on.
Reaching a height of 47 meters and parking up, Bleck proved one thing – the quattro still had it.

Second time around, the drive was just as iconic and gravity defying.
The goosebump-inducing footage became an ad on American TV, and a print version appeared in newspapers.
And get this – Bleck did the drive 11 times for the sake of the advertisement, further proving it was no fluke.
“I could have gone faster, even at the steepest point,” he said.

A distinction in the world of cars – the Audi Quattro vs the quattro
The 2005 ad was intended as a tribute to the 25 year birthday of the quattro.
And no, we’re not talking about the car.
It may seem like a minor detail, but capitalization makes a huge difference here.
The quattro is the all-wheel-drive system found in many Audi models, including the A4 and the Q7.
On the other hand, the Quattro is a specific car model, made famous back in the 1980s as a road and rally car.
In the years since, the Quattro has remained iconic.
One tuner recreated it as an unattainable 523bhp beast with a whole lot more power than its inspiration.
And who could forget the time a Quattro pulled a 40,000-pound truck out of the deep snow?
