These blind drivers hit full speed in a Canadian charity race with copilots guiding every turn to raise money to provide free guide and service dogs for people with disabilities.

The Défi-Vision race is not only for a good cause, but it also helps foster an atmosphere of trust, communication, and teamwork between the blind drivers and their co-pilots.

It is expensive to fully train a guide or service dog, around $30,000, so every dollar raised through the race can transform someone’s life.

The blind drivers have different visual impairments, so each of the drivers wear blindfolds so that no one has an advantage over anyone else.

Blind drivers and their copilots hit full speed in Canadian charity race

On July 4th, 2025, the Mira Foundation Défi-Vision 2025 race took place, a race hosted by CAN (the Canadian Accessibility Network).

It’s like any other race, with 35 speeding cars; however, the cars are piloted by blind drivers and their seeing copilots.

The teamwork, trust, and communication between the drivers and their copilots had to be watertight to avoid any of the cars crashing into each other.

All of the drivers have different visual differences, so to make things equal, all the blind drivers wore blindfolds, while their copilots told the drivers where to go.

Chaos for a good cause

The videos from the events have shown utter chaos with cars swerving all around and almost smashing into each other.

There is a reason for all the chaos though, as it costs $30,000 for the Mira Foundation to train a guide or service dog for a blind person and every single dollar raised by the race goes straight toward the guide dogs.

This extraordinary challenge was even undertaken by the Canadian Accessibility Network chairman, who was born visually impaired.

What a great and fun way to raise money for a fantastic cause.
