Images of a Boeing 767 airliner that took to the seas after decades in the air have resurfaced on Reddit.
The aircraft was pictured back in 2016 on top of a barge, while being hauled by a tug boat, as it battled through some pretty adverse weather conditions.
Spotting an aircraft on top of a boat was not something onlookers expected, so it was understandable that they turned out to take some pictures.
Those pictures have resurfaced online, showcasing a truly bizarre sight that has to be seen to be believed.

Why the Boeing 767 was on a barge
The airliner was pictured on the barge in 2016, having been retired from service.
It had been taken by sea from Shannon Airport along Ireland’s west coast, continuing on to the Enniscrone estuary in County Sligo.
Images show the Boeing 767 floating on the barge through some very inclement weather.
Waves are crashing around the aircraft, and the barge is battling through rough seas.
The aircraft was moved as part of a project by local funeral director David McGowan.

His unusual plan was to turn the former airliner into a guest stay feature at a planned glamping village.
Upon arrival, the plane was lifted ashore with a large cradle.
Naturally, its arrival caused a bit of a stir.
Photos showed the airliner on its unusual journey
The bad weather was captured in the photos of the plane on its final journey.
Locals gathered to watch it go by, with others observing from paddleboards.
Even the rain and wind didn’t stop them from taking pictures.
The bad weather didn’t stop the plane from being placed in Enniscrone Village either.
Other photos online have shown the aircraft parked up at its current location.
Sadly, as of the time of writing, the glamping site hadn’t managed to get up and running.
Anyone know the story behind this abandoned airplane and train in Enniscrone?

As of November 2025, the Boeing still sits there, but it is not being used for glamping.
A wide variety of issues have prevented the village from opening.
There is still some hope, however, that the retired airliner will one day serve as accommodation.
For now, it sits in the village, waiting to see if it has another life or if it will be scrapped.
