London’s Ambulance Service is swapping diesel vans for something far sleeker and faster, electric Mustangs.
The capital city’s Ambulance Service has dropped $31 million to bring 42 Ford Mustang Mach-Es into its fleet, and they’re already out and about on the streets.
These are the same electric Mustangs you’d spot on city streets, but fitted with sirens, lifesaving gear, and hospital tech.
Turns out Mustang muscle is now powering life-or-death missions across London.

The $31 million fleet that’s saving Londoners
Instead of the classic NHS ambulance vans people in the UK usually see on the streets, the London Ambulance Service has invested $31 million into 42 Mustang Mach-E first responder EVs.
This investment makes London’s Ambulance Service the UK’s largest owner of fully electric response vehicles.
Each Mach-E has been converted for medical duty, with integrated lights, communication systems, and screens that let paramedics access patient data instantly.

The cars can handle 12-hour shifts on a single charge and reach 300 miles of range before needing a top-up.
Charging takes around 40 minutes to hit 80 percent – cutting downtime to almost nothing.
The cars also come with built-in safety systems, including onboard cameras, panic buttons, and tracking to keep emergency crews protected on the job.
The Mustang Mach-E wasn’t chosen for looks alone; its silent acceleration makes it ideal for threading through London’s packed streets, getting medics where they’re needed faster than traditional ambulances ever could.

The Mustangs bring American muscle with British precision
Ford worked directly with the London Ambulance Service to customize the Mach-Es for real-world emergencies.
The result is a fleet that merges American performance with British precision, all while producing zero tailpipe emissions, which is good for a city that is striving to be greener.

The switch aligns with London’s goal to cut pollution and improve air quality across the city, a move that’s saving both lives and lungs.
From muscle car heritage to emergency service hero, the Mustang nameplate just got a whole new purpose, and this time, it’s racing to save lives instead of chasing speed records.
