If you are an American manufacturer, you may be worried right now, as BYD has launched what it claims is the ‘world’s longest range EV‘, and nothing from the United States currently comes close.
Chinese manufacturers have been making huge strides in recent years, with BYD one of the leaders of that pack.
Its luxury brand, Denza, looks to have moved the goalposts and now boasts a huge range before the battery runs out.
Manufacturers like Chevrolet and Ford are yet to release something matching the new figures.

This is how much range the new BYD EV has
The new electric car is an updated version of the Denza Z9 GT, with Denza being the luxury division of BYD.
According to Denza, this is ‘the world’s longest pure electric driving range vehicle’.
The company announced the car on Chinese social media.
Before, the Denza Z9 GT had enough range for 391 miles, already an impressive number.

But this updated version has enough range for 644 miles, a 64 percent increase over the earlier version.
The new and updated car is set to make its public debut on March 5th at a BYD event.
Yet if a new regulatory filing is correct, BYD could create something more impressive.
The upcoming Z9 sedan might have more range on offer.
It could set a new benchmark for the world’s longest range.
But, at nearly every American manufacturer, electric cars can’t come close to the 664 miles of the Z9.

How American EVs compare to the Denza Z9 GT
If you are an American manufacturer, you can currently only dream of matching the range of the new Denza.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring does a good job, coming in with a range of 512 miles.
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Silverado EV boasts enough range for 478 miles.
If you own a current Tesla Model S, it has 405 miles of range based on EPA estimates.
For a lot of people, 400-500 miles of range is probably good enough for them.

But an EV with the range of the Denza means long trips are possible without thinking of recharging.
It is no wonder that Ford CEO Jim Farley felt ‘humbled’ after stripping down a Chinese EV.
If China keeps increasing the range of its electric cars, who what the new world’s longest range could be.
