This California homeowner got some solar panels installed and has now shared an energy bill from before and after the installation to show off the shocking difference.

It’s a choice that many people will consider at one point or another – whether to switch to solar.

With all the talk of high energy bills and going green, it’s become a hot topic in households across the US.

For one Californian, making the switch has brought a big difference.

How much of a difference have solar panels made to this Californian homeowner and his energy bills?

When it comes to powering your house, you’ll have a lot to weigh up.

But the primary concern will most likely be the cost.

After all, who is going to switch to a new energy source if it’s going to hit their bank account harder?

In recent years, solar panels have been increasing in popularity, as the number of US homes with solar panels has nearly tripled over the last three years, The New York Times reported.

It certainly fits in with the ‘Go Green’ ethos that a lot of us have tried to live by in the last few years.

But does it work out as cheaper for the average homeowner?

One Californian took to Reddit to share his experience, and used two energy bills to illustrate the change – one from before the panels were installed, and one from after.

The first bill covered mid-November to early December 2022, while the second was for that same period one year later.

When you see the price difference, you’ll be tempted to get a ladder out and install the panels yourself.

Get this – the first bill was $280.87, and the second was $17.21.

That’s a saving of $263.66!

Imagine having an extra $263 in your bank account, even after you’ve paid your energy bill.

The post, shared in subreddit r/Damnthatsinteresting, attracted a lot of attention as many chimed in to sing their praises of solar panels.

Is it time you look into making the switch?

It’s not just houses that are seeing the benefit of solar power

As more people make the switch to solar, it’ll be interesting to see how that changes the conversation surrounding affordability and household bills.

Especially with solar farms being constructed around the world – like this massive offshore project in China.

Over in India, a renewable energy park has opened that dwarfs Paris five times over.

Even Tesla centers throughout Asia are using rooftop solar panels to power the production of its EVs.

And in a few years, we could be seeing solar farms operating from space – yes, seriously.
