This California man with a Lord of the Rings license plate was delighted when Elijah Wood saw it.

John Caldwell, a self-described ‘Tolkien super fan’ had been rolling around in a Toyota with ‘4 Frodo’ plastered on the back.

Inexplicably, the very actor who played the famous Hobbit happened to come across his car.

And when Wood shared a picture online, it led to a wonderful exchange.

We’ve seen some fun themed cars over the years.

There was this insanely cool 1974 Corvette which was decked out in an epic Star Wars tribute.

Then there was the delightfully fun Pokémon-wrapped Smart Car.

And even the license plates can be amusing – remember this pizza-themed plate that came out in Connecticut?

It’s got nothing on the Dolly Parton plates, but it’s still comical.

In a similar vein, John Caldwell was driving around in a Toyota with a ‘4 Frodo’ license plate on his car.

For those of you not in the know, Frodo Baggins is the main character in JRR Tolkien’s fantasy trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

To make a long story short, Frodo is tasked with destroying the One Ring to save Middle Earth, the fantasy land in which he and the other characters live.

His adventures found a new audience in the early 2000s when Peter Jackson adapted the series into three blockbuster movies.

Elijah Wood was cast to play the Hobbit, donning elven ears and hairy feet.

In tribute, Caldwell put a quote about Frodo onto his license plate.

The quote comes from Aragorn in the third Lord of the Rings film, who said ‘For Frodo’, before leading an army into battle.

When Caldwell got that on a plate, he could never have guessed that Wood would come across the car.

But that’s exactly what happened.

The actor shared a snap of the plate with his millions of Twitter followers, and this made its way back to Caldwell.

He replied to the Sin City actor: “That’s my car hahaha, you have made my day kind sir.”

“It’s yours! Amazing! I’d passed you once before and nearly followed you,” Wood replied.

Wouldn’t that have been a really cool way to meet one of your heroes?!

Caldwell proudly shared the exchange to his Instagram page, where he wrote: ‘When your commitment to being a Tolkien super fan pays off…’

And for good measure, he threw in a quote from Aragorn.

He penned: ‘A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.’

Good luck fitting that onto a license plate.
