A Canadian YouTuber drove their Tesla Model 3 EV to zero percent and then used a Tesla Supercharger to see how the price compares to home charging.

YouTuber Arpine Pog set out in August 2024 to find out just how much it would cost to recharge her Model 3 from zero, and if it was cheaper than refilling a gas car.

She aimed to see if we have been lied to about Teslas and other EVs costing less to refill versus a regular gas car.

Arpine had never recharged her car from zero before, so she was fascinated to see what the cost was.

The YouTuber has usually recharged her Tesla at home via her electricity supply.

That would add up to around $10 in total, so she was curious as to how much more a Supercharger would cost.

After she had gotten the car to 15 percent, the cost had risen to $9.

It was nearly as much as it cost her to recharge the EV at home.

That led to her wondering just how much it was going to cost at the end of it.

Up to 24 percent, and the cost of recharging her Model 3 had risen up to over $13, Canadian dollars that is.

Arpine stated she had never spent a massive amount on recharging her Tesla before.

If the max she has spent is $10 at her own house, then it’s understandable why she seemed so shocked.

She kept watching the cost rise as the battery capacity slowly replenished, leading to some stressed facial expressions.

With the car at 90 percent full, the total cost of the recharge had risen to $ 49 CAD.

In the end, her projection of it costing around $50 was correct.

It took one hour and 10 minutes before the Tesla Model 3 was fully recharged.

By the time it had reached 100 percent, the recharge from zero cost her $54.94.

In the United States, that would cost around $38.36.

The test provided an interesting comparison of how much home charging costs versus using a Supercharger.

It perhaps explains why so many people opt to have charging ports installed at their homes.
