The Chevy Colorado would very much still appear to be the king of the pickup trucks in America.

Despite only being three months into the new year, the Colorado has surged in sales.

Alongside it, the pickup truck market in general has seen substantial growth this year.

So, does the pickup truck still rule the American market?

Chevy Colorado leads truck charge

In 2004, General Motors released the long-awaited successor to the Chevrolet S-10 truck.

When first released, the Colorado came, as standard, with a 2.5-liter, inline-4 engine.

Years later, in 2011, the Colorado second generation was unveiled – it had been redesigned.

It was re-imagined as a mid-range pickup truck, and the facelift was a great decision by the brand.

Alongside the 2.5-liter diesel engine, the second generation Colorado also came in a 2.8-liter version.

The facelifted Colorado proved to be extremely popular and sold very well in America.

In fact, the Chevrolet Colorado won the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award in 2015 and 2016.

The mid-range pickup truck has endured as a standard bearer of the range ever since.

Colorado leads the GM charge

Recently, sales figures for the first quarter of 2025 were released in America.

And they make very positive reading for General Motors executives.

As an entity, General Motors have seen sales grow by 16.7% compared to Q1 in 2024.

Within the General Motors family, Chevrolet is leading from the front in terms of sales.

The brand’s sales have risen by 13.7% in the United States compared to this time last year.

More specifically, the interesting trend from the data is the growth of the mid-range pickup truck.

The Colorado itself has seen monstrous growth, rocketing up 73.3% with 25,856 units sold in 2025.

In fact, if the Colorado continues on its current pattern, it’ll make history.

It’s projected to sell more than 100,000 units for the first time since 2019.

Given the present global climate, it appears that the mid-range market will experience a lot of growth.

In fact, the Colorado has even outsold the Silverado, its larger sibling.

And that’s very good news for brands like Chevrolet, which lead the mid-range pickup market.

All in all, it would very much appear that the pickup truck still rules America.
