The first Bombardier Global 8000 has gone into service, and it’s the fastest civil aircraft since Concorde.

Bombardier first shared news of the business jet around three years ago, promising the fastest civilian aircraft since the supersonic Concorde

But the plane isn’t just fast, it’s also got an impressive range of more than 9,000 miles.

After receiving Transport Canada Type Certification last month, the first Global 8000 has now been handed over to its new owner.

The business jet was snapped up by former hockey star turned businessman Patrick Dovigi, the same guy who recently traded his $362 million superyacht for an even pricier model

The new Global 8000 will replace Dovigi’s current Global 7500.

And it’s a very impressive upgrade.

The Bombardier Global 8000 has a top speed of Mach 0.95, putting it ahead of the likes of the Gulfstream G700, which can reach top speeds of Mach 0.935.

In fact, it’s the fastest business jet in the world, and the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde.

As well as being the fastest out there, the Global 8000 is also seriously luxe.

The jet has four spacious suites and has been designed to ‘help combat jet lag’ thanks to its unique wellness-based features and tech, such as a special air-purification system and its Soleil circadian lighting system.

Other features include a large stand-up TV, a full-sized bed, a six-seater dining table, and a well-stocked kitchen with a sink, microwave, and fridge.

“Pride and excitement only begin to describe what the entry-into-service of the Global 8000 means for all 18,000 of us at Bombardier,” Bombardier President and CEO Éric Martel said.

“This revolutionary aircraft is redefining the business aviation landscape with its innovative design, signature smooth ride, unmatched performance and a promise fulfilled to our customers.”

How does its speed compare to Concorde?

The supersonic Concorde traveled at around Mach 2.04 or 1,354mph.

Its super-fast speeds meant that the plane could fly between New York and London in about three hours.

Meanwhile, the Bombardier Global 8000 doesn’t quite hit supersonic speeds and has a top speed of Mach 0.95, or 729mph, a little below the speed of sound.

Concorde’s cutting-edge tech highlights

Droop nose design: This gave pilots better visibility during takeoff/landing

Olympus 593 engines: Afterburning turbojets made supersonic commercial travel possible

Mach 2 cruising speed: Almost twice the speed of sound

Carbon fiber brakes: First in commercial aviation to reduce high-speed wear

Delta wing shape: Provided stability at varying flight speeds
