A couple named Juho and Sohvi in California bought a barnacle-covered abandoned yacht for just $57,000.
But even the couple was unaware that after five months of hard work, the yacht’s value would skyrocket to $225,000.
They started with a mess of old wiring, a broken engine, and a fridge that probably hadn’t seen a cool breeze in years.
Yet, they ended up with a shiny, well-equipped yacht ready for an adventurous journey.

A couple turned a $57K abandoned yacht into a $225K dream boat
Juho and Sohvi shared their whole journey with the yacht on their YouTube channel which goes by the name Alluring Arctic Sailing.
They started the restoration by replacing the yacht’s electrical system.
They removed all the old wiring and installed a brand-new one to make sure everything worked smoothly.
Not stopping there, they swapped out the yacht’s worn-out engine and refrigeration system with brand-new, more efficient parts.
They also relocated the battery banks for better performance and added new alternators to keep the yacht’s power up during long trips.
Fixing a worn-out yacht is no easy feat, as seen when a couple turned a 78ft rotten yacht into their dream home.
Then came the engine compartment. It got a whole new propeller shaft, oil changes, and a good overhaul to keep it running smoothly.
The boat’s bottom was sanded down as well, with faulty paint removed, all thanks to some friends who pitched in.
A beautiful yacht with a beautiful name
Sohvi also crafted new plastic floors for the locker compartments, ensuring they stayed moisture-free.
They decided to name their beautiful yacht ‘Lumi,’ which means ‘snow’ in Finnish, hinting at the beautiful journey they planned.
Then came the time when the boat was valued after five months, which came at a staggering $225,000.
It’s a massive increase from the original purchase price. However, they ended up spending more money than they had planned on the refit.
