The deepest car tunnel in the world is set to cost a reported $2 billion to build and will allow cars to travel as deep as 27km beneath the sea.
Every commuter dreads a long journey to work, whether it consists of hours in the car or on public transport, but thanks to the Rogfast tunnel, Norwegians can expect a more timely journey to work.
The tunnel is set to delve as deep as 27km below the sea and make life a whole lot easier.
And, if it all goes to plan, by 2033, the tunnel could be up and running, cutting commutes.

This is the deepest car tunnel in the world
In Norway, things are getting exciting with a new tunnel set to take motoring quite literally to completely new depths, with a reported eight million cubic meters of rock being removed to make it possible.
The Rogfast project is set to bring the deepest and longest underground travel system to life, with a depth of almost 1,300 feet beneath the sea level, as well as measuring almost 27 kilometers.

The purpose of the mammoth deepest car tunnel is to join a highway on the west coast of Norway, with the tunnel supposedly being able to cut down journey times by a substantial amount.
This includes travel times between the two cities of Stavanger and Bergen, which is any commuter’s dream.
But, as you’d expect, a tunnel beneath the sea won’t be a cheap project to complete. In fact, the cost of the new underwater connection method is set to cost a reported $2 billion.

The construction of the tunnel is set to be complete in 2033, so in less than 10 years, 21-hour journeys could be a thing of the past.
The current route of the E39 could be a struggle of the past, along with ferry journeys, and will allow two lanes of traffic.
The car tunnel is set to break records, too
Not only will it cost a lot, but the tunnel is also reportedly set to break records, according to engineering experts from the region, Norconsult.
These records include it becoming the world’s longest underwater road tunnel for regular traffic, the world’s longest and deepest four-lane road tunnel, and the world’s deepest road junction.
But, it’s not the only impressive tunnel in the works around the globe; there’s also a $19 trillion maglev tunnel proposal that promises speedy travel and connects London to New York in record time.
