EVs are the new favorite of many gearheads

Electric cars are now part of everyday life thanks to the huge rise in popularity over the last decade, and arguably the biggest reason aiding that shift is the cost of charging.

Owning a car comes with many additional costs, aside from purchasing it in the first instance.

From road tax to maintenance, things can cost a small fortune, and the price of gas jumps to the top of the list, so for many, an EV is a more cost-effective car to purchase.

So, to settle one huge debate, the experts over at Go Banking Rates did the all-important ground work and really figured out the difference in charging an EV versus filling up a tank of gas over the course of a month.

The battle of the Ts – Toyota Yaris vs Tesla Models

The experts calculated the cost of running both vehicles on the basis of covering 15,000 miles per year, or in other terms, 40 miles per day.

So, commuters, listen up – we have you covered, and you could save money.

Using Tesla’s very own charging calculator, the costs were revealed, and if you’re covering around 40 miles per day, you won’t be paying above $64.83 to charge up your EV.

Let’s break it down.

Owners of a Model 3 can expect to pay $49.92, Model Y and Model S owners will spend $54.48, and to keep the Model X topped up, you will be spending $64.83.

Of course, the price of electricity in your state and neighborhood plays a role too, so watch out for that.

But, overall, for the cost of a meal out, you can get your car powered up to the max.

Now comes the gas cost, and a word of warning: this may hurt your bank account.

Toyota is a brand known for reliability and value for money, but how much does it really cost to fill up a Toyota Yaris?

Well, the experts used a calculator courtesy of Edmunds, and due to the province they used, it was estimated that driving both in the city and on the highway in the Pennsylvania area, you would be looking at spending $113 on gas each month, achieving 36 miles per gallon.

Compared with charging, that’s a stark difference.

We should state here that this, of course, varies from area to area, with North Dakota coming in at around $102, but nevertheless, it’s still much cheaper to charge a Tesla than fill up a Toyota Yaris.
