Every year, automakers swing the axe on underperforming models, adding to a growing list of discontinued cars.

Some we won’t miss. Others definitely sting.

And 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest culls yet.

Here are the cars bowing out, with fans already grieving (or celebrating) their demise.

Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman

The Boxster and Cayman – Porsche’s entry point – are on their way out.

Porsche is retiring both cars in their current form as the brand preps all-electric replacements.

Timelines are fuzzy, meaning we lose the gas versions before EVs arrive.

Redditors are not too pleased with the development, with one person writing: “The real killer is the Cayman going all EV. Just stomach turning.”

Nissan Altima

After three decades, the Altima nameplate joins the list of discontinued cars.

Once a go-to midsize sedan, it now exits as SUV demand crushes sedan sales.

The reaction online? Pure comedy.

“No Altima?! Roads across the world just got MUCH SAFER,” joked one user.

Another added: “We have 20+ years of Altimas held together with duct tape and bailing wire to keep us on our toes.”

Nissan Versa

America’s cheapest new car – starting under $19,000 – may be gone after 2025.

Reports point to its discontinuation despite a surprise sales bump.

As one commenter put it, ‘Versa going away is just eliminating even more people out of the new car market.’

BMW X4, 8 Series & M8 Competition

BMW has potentially more discontinued cars on its 2026 list than any other carmaker.

The funky X4 crossover coupe is out.

The elegant 8 Series coupe and Gran Coupe are finished too, dragging the fire-breathing M8 Competition down with them.

Owners aren’t thrilled.

“Sad they’re killing the 8 Series – I absolutely adore my 2022 840xi GC,” said one fan.

BMW XM (Base Model)

In addition to the previous casualties, BMW’s boldest SUV experiment flopped.

Sales were abysmal, so the base XM is gone.

BMW will keep the higher-powered XM Label, but at upwards of $187,000 it’s no volume seller.

Infiniti QX50 & QX55

Infiniti’s best-selling model still wasn’t good enough.

The QX50 and its coupe-roof sibling QX55 both end in 2025.

The slightly larger QX60 now carries the load.

Audi A4, A7 & S7

Audi’s streamlining comes with casualties too.

The A4’s gas model is done, replaced indirectly by the A5.

The elegant A7 and its sporty S7 twin also won’t survive past 2025.

But the RS7 lives on… for now.

Cadillac XT4 & XT6

Cadillac killed the XT4 to free up production space for the new Chevy Bolt.

The larger XT6 also didn’t make the cut, leaving the brand leaning hard on Escalade (and its new electric twin, Escalade iQ).

Lexus LC Hybrid, RC & RC F

The forgotten LC Hybrid bows out, leaving only the mighty V8 LC500.

Meanwhile, Lexus finally kills the slow-selling RC coupe and its hotter RC F variant.

That leaves Lexus with just one front-engine, rear-drive coupe: the LC.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe & GLE Coupe

Rumors point to both coupe-roof SUVs disappearing.

The standard GLC and GLE will stay, but the stylish spinoffs could be consolidated or scrapped entirely.

Porsche Macan (Gas)

The gas Macan’s future was supposed to be simple: get replaced by the EV.

But with softer EV demand, Porsche is second-guessing.

Officially, the ICE Macan’s done.

Unofficially, the jury’s still out.

Subaru Legacy

The last of Subaru’s midsize sedans.

Introduced in 1990, it built the brand’s AWD rep before the WRX even existed.

Now, it’s finally out of the family photo.

Genesis Electrified G80

The gas G80 survives, but the battery-powered one doesn’t.

Sales never took off – fewer than 500 sold in 2024.

One of the quieter exits on this list.

Volvo S60, S90, V60 Polestar & V90

Volvo’s sedan and wagon purge is brutal.

S60? Dead.

S90? Survives only in China.

V60 Polestar and V90? Both gone.

As one fan pointed out, ‘Volvo is just gonna be three different sized SUVs now?’

For these soon-to-be discontinued car models, time is running out.

While 2026 hasn’t even arrived, the headstones are already carved.
