Coveted license plate sells for more than a Pininfarina Battista in Dubai

Yet another license plate sold for a record sum in Dubai, and it ended up costing more than a Pininfarina Battista hypercar.

The coveted license plate is quite short and cryptic, like record-breaking plates often are.

This one only features two letters and two digits.

But the price tag has a lot more than just two digits in it.

A license plate that costs the same as a supercar

Dubai’s RTA, the city’s Roads and Transport Authority, regularly sells license plate at auction, and the auction event always generates millions every time.

On this occasion, the event concluded with a staggering total revenue of AED98.83 million – approximately $26.9 million.

The number plate in question, ‘CC22’, sold for AED8.35 million – equivalent to $2.27 million.

That’s more than enough to buy a brand-new Pininfarina Battista, an electric hypercar that starts at around $2.2 million.

It’s also more than enough to buy, for example, a nice boat, a luxury home in most places in the world or about 7,000 Rolex Daytonas like the one that Mark Zuckerberg something wears.

But, as we all know, there are places in the world where money is no object, and Dubai is one of those places.

This wasn’t even the most expensive plate sold in Dubai

License plates are sold at auction in a lot of places, not just Dubai.

For example, earlier this year, somebody spent $2 million for a rare plate in China.

You can also buy customized plates in countries like the UK and the US, and even though they’re not worth millions, they’re still not cheap.

However, what makes the sale of the ‘CC22’ plate even more remarkable is the fact this wasn’t even the most expensive plate sold in Dubai.

Not even close.

About three years ago, the coveted ‘AA8’ plate sold for 35 million dirhams, about $9.53 million.

Then, in March 2025, another rare plate sold for the exact same amount, 35 million dirhams.
