The license plate DD5 just sold for an enormous amount of cash at the Most Noble Number auction, held at the Armani Hotel in Dubai.
Over 20 people bid on the plate and when the gavel fell, the number on the screen had a lot of zeros in it.
The plate sold for 35 million dirhams, equivalent to around $9.5 million.
And wait until you hear the name of the person who placed the winning bid.

Dubai is the go-to market for this sort of thing
There’s definitely a market for expensive license plates in Dubai and charity auctions such as this one are held on a regular basis.
About three years ago, the coveted ‘AA8’ sold for 35 million dirhams, the same exact amount as the ‘DD5’ number plate.
Then, last year, the AA69 number plate sold for ‘just’ $2 million dollars.

Most of the plates that sold at the Most Noble Number auction at the Armani Hotel, which is held annually to raise funds for the Fathers’ Endowment Campaign, featured a combination of the letters ‘DD’ and a number.
Aside from the DD5 number plate, another one worth mentioning is the DD24, which was sold for 6.3 million dirhams ($1.7 million).
The name of the license plate owner might ring a bell

Over 20 people bid but the license plate went to Muhammad BinGhatti, chairman of Binghatti Holding.
Binghatti is a huge name in the real estate world, and car people may be familiar with it because this is the brand that worked with both Bugatti and Mercedes to develop residential buildings in the UAE.
Binghatti also teamed up with Jacob & Co, a jewellery and watchmaker, to developd a record-breaking skyscraper in Dubai.
First announced in 2022, the world’s highest residential tower was launched just one year later.
